Morrisville has certainly grown in popularity and population in the last 30 years. It has grown from a population of 251 in 1980 to over 15,000 today. Morrisville is centrally located equal distance between Raleigh and Durham with easy access to I-40, I-540, US0-1, Raleigh-Durham Airport and the Research Triangle Park, making it the perfect location for doing business. Many of Cary’s residents and subdivisions have spilled over into Morrisville in recent years. With thriving businesses, safe neighborhoods, mild winters and warm summers, people find themselves right at home here.

As the community has grown, Morrisville has launched a planning effort in January 2006 to create a place for the community to gather for culture, entertainment and education. The Town Center Plan will create this place at Morrisville’s historic crossroads and will be anchored by a modern cultural center with venues to support the arts, education and green living featuring an outdoor amphitheater, practice rooms and a theatre. Also included in the plan will be a commercial district, public park and new housing opportunities. In addition, visitors will notice many new shopping and commercial projects popping up all over Morrisville.

Morrisville History

Morrisville was named for Jeremiah Morris who established the first post office in 1852 and donated 3 acres to the NC railroad for a water station, woodshed and other buildings supporting the railroad that was so critical to the local area. Morrisville is the oldest community among the other local towns of Cary, Garner and Auburn along the NC Railroad. The town continued to grow, adding general stores, churches, a hotel, a sawmill, as well as law and medical practices in the 1870’s. The first town hall was established in the Morrisville Christian Church in 1976. The population grew significantly from 1,022 people in 1990 to around 12,000 in 2004.

Morrisville’s prime location, peaceful neighborhoods and growing commercial projects make it a perfect place for Wake County residents to call home.
